DECREE
Having reviewed the division of parishes throughout the Archdiocese in consultation with all Pastors and other interested parties, and having listened to the observations of the Council of Priests, Holy Spirit – Ducha Swietego Mission, previously a mission for the care of souls of the Polish faithful of the Archdiocese, has now been established as an official territorial parish.
I HEREBY DECREE that Holy Spirit – Ducha Swietego Mission as of this day will be known as Holy Spirit Parish.

FIRST WEEKEND IN THE PARISH 2001
SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 22
The Holy Eucharist is celebrated in the St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School Gym
5:00 PM
- Fr. Zygmunt Ostrowski, S.Chr. started the celebration of the first Holy Eucharist in the parish history with song: "COME HOLY SPIRIT".
- 121 people came to that Mass.
- Many came with their children.
- After all 50 Parish Census Forms has been taken along with 43 sets of the budget envelopes.
SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 23
9:30 AM
- Fr. Zygmunt celebrated Mass with 241 people.
- Many young parents with their children.
- Before Mass two ushers distributed Parish Census Forms with 75 sets of budget envelopes.
- After Mass 23 Forms has been filled out and returned.
- During the Mass a seminarian read two readings. It was very joyful celebration.
- Many came to Fr. Zygmunt and expressed their willingness to help.
11:30 AM
- Fr. Zygmunt started to celebrate Mass for Polish people.
- 245 came to participate.
- After his greeting he was welcomed by Elzbieta Stolarz, a secretary and a chairwoman of the Polish Catholic Mission (PCM) in Barrie.
- PCM became a part of the Holy Spirit Parish.
OCTOBER 2001
October 14 - St. Therese relics in Barrie.
- From 2 pm - 9 pm in St. Mary's Chruch.

- Fr. Zygmunt will lead a pilgrimage to Marian Shrine in Europe. Fr. Stan Hajkowski, S.Chr.
is celebrating Masses during this time.

- Mass offered for the married couples and renewal of the vows.

- Novena Masses for Deceased.
November 4
- First meeting with parents of children that will be prepared for the Sacraments: Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.
November 25
- Bishop Anthony Meagher comes to celebrate Holy Mass at 9:30 and 11:30 (Polish Mass) and install Fr. Zygmunt Ostrowski, S.Chr. as the first pastor of Holy Spirit Parish.
- The number of families - 156, that sign up as a members of our Holy Spirit Parish since 22 September 2001.
November 29
- Meeting with the Polish catechists: Malgorzata Grzywna i Elzbieta Stolarz.

- Enrollment Mass for the children and their mentors who will participate in Parish preparation for the Sacraments: Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation in the year 2002.

- Formation meeting for the Altar Servers at 10:45am.

- First Parish Christmas Bazaar from 10am till 2 pm with the visit of St. Nicholas organized by Ad-Hoc Committee chaired by Jeanne Rossi.

February 17 - MARY KELLY ABOUT SHARE LIFE
Mary, Stewardship & Development Manager, from Catholic Pastoral Centre will bring a message about Share Life.
This year's theme asks each of us to be a joyful giver! To give not only of our time, treasure and our talents, but to share all of the gifts that God has given us. We are here only for a short time as God's caretakers, trustees and managers and He invites us to share sacrificially with those in need. A gift to ShareLife enables us to be a light of hope for those less fortunate, allowing us to say "I am privileged to share God's gifts with you."

- Elizabeth Stolarz - Parish Coordinator for World Youth Day - invited parishioners to participate in this historical event by being hosts, pilgrims or volunteers.

- Bishop Anthony Meagher, auxiliary bishop of Toronto, is presiding over the concelebrated the Lord's Supper Mass.

3 p.m. Fr. Zygmunt is celebrating the Lord's Passion (in English) in the school gym.

11 a.m. blessing of the Easter Food Basket
8:30 p.m. Fr. Zygmunt is presiding over the Easter Vigil Liturgy (in English & Polish). Fr. Stanislaw Hajkowski from Sterling Heights, Michigan is the homilist.

9:30 a.m. Fr. Stanislaw celebrates the Liturgy. He is also the homilist.

APRIL 2002
April 7 3 p.m.
- Polish Holy Rosary Society & Polish Alliance of Canada celebrates the annual traditional Easter Dinner called "Swiecone" in a Polish Hall on Hwy 90.
- 120 people participate the dinner and Easter in songs and poems.
April 14 1 p.m.
- Fr. Zygmunt celebrates Mass on a day of Grand Opening of St. Joan of Arc High School.
- After Mass there is a special ceremony with prayer (Fr. Zygmunt), presentations by various dignitaries (local, provincial, federal government) and cutting the ribbon.
- Fr. Zygmunt blessed the whole school earlier after Mass.
April 21

May 1 @ 9 a.m.- Blessing of St. Joseph statue placed in a chapel (rectory) renovated by the artist Malgorzata Kajda from Kitchener.

- placed in a chapel next to St. Joseph statue (renovated by the same artist).
May 14
- Day of Retreat for candidates for confirmation with the celebration of the Sacrament of the Reconciliation.
May 19 @ 3 p.m.
- Fr. Zygmunt Ostrowski, SChr administered first historic Sacrament of Confirmation in the Parish.
- 36 young parishioners received that Sacrament at St. John's Vianney Church.
- He thanks Mr. Ab. Falconi and Mr. Edmond Dixon for preparing them.
May 10-18 Novena Masses for Mothers
- Friday at 9:00 am in the rectory and it will be continued till May 18, 2002.

- Sacrament of Penance for 73 children before I Communion at St. John's Church.
May 26 @ 3 p.m.
- Sacrament of Eucharist (I Communion). First historic group fully participate in the Mass during which they receive Jesus in a Holy Eucharist (First Communion) at St. John's church.

- WYD Cross in Angus - Borden sponsored by the Parishes of Simcoe County & CFB Borden Chaplaincy. Taize Prayer, Candle Light Service and BBQ.

- ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE OF ALTAR SERVERS
- This coming Tuesday our parish altar servers will make their annual pilgrimage to a Shrine of Canadians Martyrs in Midland, to celebrate Mass, learn about the Shrine and to enjoy afterwards picnic.
- We invite our parishioners to come with us to pray and enjoy pilgrimage.
July 18
- WYD Cross visit our Holy Spirit Parish Property at 622 Essa Road at 11:50 a.m.
- Fr. Zygmunt prayed the Rosary in english and polish languages.
- Walking Pilgrim with the WYD Cross started from St. Mary's Cementary to Centennial Park.
- The program includes Taize Prayer & BBQ at Lake Simcoe.
July 22
- Polish pilgrims from Katowice stayed overnight.
- Next day they visited Sanctuary of Canadian Martyrs in Midland

September 7 - Thanksgiving Mass for WYD Volunteers. Fr. Zygmunt give out special certificates to the participantes.
September 10 - 7:40 p.m. Fr. Zygmunt called first Parish Coordinator's meeting.
September 15-16 - Special Blessing for the children for the new school year.

September 29 - Parish Ministry Weekend. Parish coordinators were available after each Mass to give more information about specific liturgical ministry in our Parish. Volunteer form were available.
OCTOBER 2002
October 5/6 - Meeting with Parents of the children, who are planning to participate in the Immediate Parish Sacramental Preparation.
October 6 - Life Chain from 2 till 3 p.m.
October 15-16 Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 6 p.m. till 6 p.m. next day. Adoration was offered as a thanksgiving for John Paul II 24 years of His pontificate.
October 26 - 4 p.m. Blessing of the future Parish land by bishop Richard Greco, D.D., Fr. Andrew Maslejak, SChr, Fr. Zygmunt Ostrowski, SChr. Program enriched with prayers and songs in English and Polish language.
October 26 - 5 p.m. Mass celebrated by bishop Richard Greco, Fr. Adnrew Maslejak, Fr. Zygmunt Ostrowski.

NOVEMBER 2002
November 16 - Training sessions at the rectory for lectors, ushers and Eucharistic Ministers.
November 23 - 10 a.m. Training session for members of Parish Finance Council and Fund Raising Committee with Mary Kelly and Trena Finnegan from the office of Archdiocese of Toronto.
November 23, 24 - Altar servers received surplices during Mass on Saturday and Sunday. New candidates are welcomed.
DECEMBER 2002
December 14 - 5 p.m. youth group performance "Ave" from Burlington at St. Bernadette school gym. During the Saturday Mass "Ave" enlightened the liturgy by singing. After Mass a wonderful concert was performed in English and Polish.
December 24 - before Mass at 10:00 p.m. Fr. Stanislaw Hajkowski, SChr, blessed the new Marian chasuble and two additional stoles (made by Malgorzata Kajda from Studio Rubin) donated by the Polish Rosary Society. (see Parish History in Pictures)
December 29 - Annual Renewal of the marriage vows, family vows and parish family vows. Some husbands remembered to bring flowers and presented them to their wife's.

JANUARY 2003
January 5 - after 9:30 a.m. Mass Fr. Zygmunt gathered all children around the alter in front of the Nativity Scene and explained story and meaning of Epiphany Feast.
January 10 - Adoration Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament (in the chapel) from 9:45 a.m. till 12:00 noon. We ask Jesus to send us the Holy Spirit to make this year a plan for the Sanctuary of the Holy Spirit.

April 9 - 7 p.m. - Holy Family Rosary Society meeting with conference: "Who is God in Rosary Mysteries" by Fr. Zygmunt Ostrowski, SChr in a chapel. After first meeting with distribution of Annual Plan of Prayer for each family.
April 13 - Draw for Easter Baskets and Queen for a day tickets on sale. Proceeds go to Church Building Fund.
April 26,27 - after Mass, meeting for parents of children preparing for the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.

December 6 - children from Holy Rosary Society gathered in a rectory for their meeting in Advent, which included spiritual part (Rosary Prayer as a way to be holy person, explanation about unholy Halloween) and 'social hour' (St. Nicholas gifts and Pizza Party).
December 13 - Holy Rosary Society - Advent Evening for all members
December 14 - Knights of Columbus organized Children's Christmas Party including visit of (true) St. Nicholas dressed as a bishop - from 2-4 p.m. 40 children participated.

June 7 - Fr. Andrzej Madej OMI invited by Holy Rosary Society.

Every Friday Adoration of Jesus in Blessed Sacrament is changed for First Friday's only. Since January 2003 the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament was done every Friday till June 2004.
AUGUST 2004
August 11- First Walking Pilgrimage from Barrie to Midland. Organized by Fr. Zygmunt and Elizabeth Stolarz
August 15- Polish Annual Mass in Midland
August 17- Youth meeting with Fr. Williams Slatter, who was a speaker on a walking pilgrimage to Midland. From this day, every other week on Tuesdays, young Parishioners meet to pray and diologe.

September 12 - individual blessing for students and teachers after Mass.

October 3- Life Chain from 2-3 p.m. at Cundles & Bayfield. It is an annual public silent witness throughout North America that all life is precious and should be protected by the law and legislators. Last year over 1000 cities held Life Chain events. There are over 100,000 abortions annually in Canada!
October 5 - 'LOGOS' youth group meeting
October 13 - Fr. Zygmunt is moving to the new 'rectory' at 22 Wildflower Court, located next to St. Joan of Arc H.S. where he celebrates Masses on Saturdays and Sundays. The new rectory has a walk-out basement enough to accommodate 100 people in a chapel and meeting room and restroom. This project will be developed by our parishioner volunteers, which will be coordinated by Józef Kaźmierczak.

November 1 - tonight - on the feast of All Saints the first Mass is celebrated at
7 p.m. In a beautiful chapel (in a basement). Wojciech Lassak brought - just before Mass - one hundred used chairs received from St. John Vianney parish. These chair need to be renovated.
November 8 - Parish Council meeting at 8 p.m.

November 14 - Elizabeth Stolarz, our parish secretary and chairman of Holy Rosary Society (Polish group), won a first place during International Festival Religious Songs in John Paul II Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, in a soloist category. We congratulate her and wish her further success in proclamation of God's Word.
November 21 - Annual Candidates and Altar Servers Sunday: we accepted six new candidates and all altar servers
we welcomed our new candidates and altar servers in our community.

February 5 - 2nd Annual Valentine's dinner Dance. With your help the Second Annual Valentine Dinner Dance came together beautifully. Our parish community would like to thank you for your generous contribution to this event. We have enjoyed a lovely and romantic evening. Our profits for the Building Fund are $5,046.40. February 18 - All day Adoration of Blessed Sacrament started on Friday from 10:00 a.m. till 7 p.m. Elizabeth Stolarz agreed to be a coordinator of the Adoration.
February 27 - St. Nicholas Catholic School Sunday. It is the oldest Catholic School in Holy Spirit Parish area since 1996. It is the first Catholic School official visit on Sunday in the history of the Holy Spirit Parish.

April 2 - Pope John Paul II has past away on Vigil of Divine Mercy.
April 8 - in loving memory of John Paul II at 7 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc school with leader's parish group participation. Youth group prepared program with songs and John Paul II words to the youth. Progam prepared by Elizabeth Stolarz.
April 19 - Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was elected as Supreme Pontiff and has chosen the name BENEDICT XVI
April 24 - "Fashion show" - more then 400 people came to enjoy our first Fashion Show. About 60 teachers, youth and adults participated. Amount of $5,964.40 raised for the building fund. thank you and God Bless!

JUNE 2005
June 2 - Fr. Jan Otłowski SChr died in Smoky Mountain, Alberta. He was born May 15, 1918 and was the first our priest who came to North America (September 1957) in Canada on December 8, 1957 he became the pastor in Calgary (till 1968). During his time a small parish community build the church. Since 1994 he served as a chaplain in the sister's convent. Let us remember this faithful servant of God in our prayers.
AUGUST 2005
August 10-13 - 2nd Walking Pilgrimage from Barrie to Canadian Martyr's Shrine in Midland. With 23 participants, which two where from English speaking group, we joined the XXIII Mississauga Walking Pilgrimage in Utopia, where our Parish prepared support for about 500 participants.
September 7 - Fr. Zygmunt Musielski OMI died in Toronto. He was the first pastor of Holy Spirit Mission. Let us remember him in our prayer.
September 18 - Annual Rosary Sunday in Midland. Mass at 12:30 p.m. outdoors at the Polish Altar. At 2 p.m. procession of the Blessed Sacrament followed by rosary and Benediction.
September 20 - Bazaar Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in John Paul II room
September 23 - employees of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board journey together to Martyrs Shrine in Midland.
September 24 - YTOL prayer meeting, from 10 a.m. till 12 p.m.

October 2 - from 2-3 p.m. LIFE CHAIN 2005. Silent witness to the Truth that abortion is a violent destruction of human life.
October 8/9 - The Knights of Columbus, Holy Spirit Council re-stock the shelves of the Barrie Food Bank by collecting non-perishable items.
October 28 - from 7 p.m. till 10 p.m. Prayer Night - Thanksgiving for the "Year of the Eucharist". Mass at 11 p.m.

April 1 - Retreat for the youth that preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Special thanks to Fr. The retreat took place at Polish Hall ZPwK in Barrie from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
April 2 - Thanksgiving Mass for John Paul II. Mass was celebrated with the Parish Youth that preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation and Youth Team of Our Lady from Barrie, Scarborough, Mississauga, Ottawa, Guelph, Kitchener, Windsor.

We welcome you Fr. Keith in our Parish, wishing God's blessings every day.
Fr. Keith born in 1959 in New Liskeard, Ontario. He moved with his parents, brothers (Paul, Barry) and sister Anna to Mississauga in 1963. Like Barrie, Fr. Keith noticed a large increase in population. He attended the Glen Forest public school and later started college in Accounting department. Responding to the call of God, he changed his field of study, starting the Austine Seminary. Ordained in 1988. Served at St. Monica in Toronto, as chaplain for the deaf in Toronto, St. John in Newmarket, St. Mary of the Sea Star in Mississauga and St. George. Teresa in Courtice. He led pilgrimages to Israel, Fatima, Lourdes and Rome. He is delighted to be in the Parish of the Holy Spirit in Barrie. Let's pray for Fr. Keith Wallace.

July 9 - We welcomed Fr. Jan Szkodziński OMI who is presiding at the 12:00 Mass. Father Jan is an Oblate Mary Immaculate. The Oblates have agreed to serve the 12:00 Polish Mass.

August 9 - III WALKING PILGRIMAGE from Barrie to Midland. Both Fr. Keith and Bishop Hundt joined the walkers on Wednesday 9th. We had 26 walkers from our Parish (2 English speaking and 24 Polish speaking).
Holy Spirit Parish, as for the last 10 year, prepares a supper for pilgrims. This years overnight stay at Laurie and Bill French farm.

A special thanks to the parishioners including the youth who helped to decorate the church for Holy Week and Easter. It was beautiful! The decorations stayed all week so that the students on lunch could see again and again the reality of our Faith. An inspiration!

On this day Holy Spirit Parish prepared supper for about 500 pilgrims (10th consecutive year)

When the heart is full – the words are inadequate. It is with a saddened and yet confident soul that I say – farewell.
My five plus years at Holy Spirit have been a time of blessing in my priesthood and faith. In struggling to be a ' great ' priest of Jesus Christ and His Church YOU have been the ones that have led me to those moments of greatness – of grace.
You have led me to great moments of parish events and activities; led me to great moments in your families' pains and joys; led to me great moments in Catholic Faith ; led me soon to a great moment of a new church for God. For these and so much more I thank you.IN PARTICULAR I WISH TO THANK ~+ Deacons and their wives; to Elizabeth our fabulous secretary Thank you for sharing the parish journey with me . I will miss you and I love you.
+ Those in liturgical ministries that made our Masses and Sacraments so beautiful in the glory of God, offering humble talents to Him. For a cafeteria you have given us Heaven .
+ To those in ministry in our now 50 + groups – for all who said yes , like Mary Our Blessed Mother, in any way. The great variety of witness and ministry has made Holy Spirit a great Light of Faith for all to see. Matthew 6 – all to not our glory and earthly reward but in silence for a heavenly reward.
+ Our schools of St Bernadette, St Catherine of Siena, St. Nicholas and St Joan of Arc. I do not have to speak of my love of Catholic Education for 14 + hours per week in schools has shown this. Every moment will never be forgotten. Principals, Teachers and Staff please continue to make our schools models of Catholic Faith.
+ To all who have come back to church–your journeys have inspired me.
+ To the children and youth – thank you for your faith and joy
+ To all who personally supported me, Fr Keith these 5 years. I needed your support in a multitude of ways and for this I thank you. To all who remembered me as a 'person' in many kind and thoughtful ways. God never forgets how we treat His priests and I will vouch to Him of your kind gestures.

WELCOME FR. TAD WALCZYK……
Fr. Tadeusz known also as Fr. Tad was born in southern eastern Poland (close to Rzeszow) on March 12, 1960. He grew up in a strong practicing Catholic family and he had a strong connection with his parish and the parish priests. He arrived in Canada on December 13th, 1983 and joined St. Augustine's Seminary in the beginning of January, 1984. While there he studied English for about a year and then theology for a year and a half. After that he did his internship program at Blessed Trinity Parish in Willowdale with Fr. Anthony Meagher who later became a bishop.After that Fr. Tad did one more year of theology at St. Augustine's and was ordained by Cardinal Carter at St. Michael's Cathedral in Toronto together with Fr. Keith Wallace and six other priests on April 30th, 1988. As a priest he spent 1 year in St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Pickering, 5 years at Our Lady of Grace in Aurora, 3 months at Blessed Sacrament in Toronto, 9 years as a pastor at Sts Peter and Paul in Mississauga, and the last 8 years he has been a pastor at St. Paul's Parish in Alliston. He is happy to come to Holy Spirit Parish in Barrie to continue the work of building up parish spiritually and the new church physically. Fr. Tad knows that he will have big shoes to fill in after Fr. Keith and that it will be a challenge and an opportunity to minister to the people of Holy Spirit Parish and to finish building the new church. Putting his trust in God and in the many good and spiritual people of the Holy Spirit who are so generous sharing their faith, time and treasure he believes that together we can continue building up the parish and the new church for God's grater glory and praise.Plans as communicated by the Archdiocese are as follows – Note that Fr Reyes will stay until mid October to help Fr Tad and Fr Mariush will be with us until December. Pray , fast and support our priests

September 18 - Dear Parishioners, Thank you very much for your warm welcome to Holy Spirit Parish. I appreciate your prayers and your words of encouragement. Please continue to pray for Fr. Keith, myself and other priests including Fr. Mar and Fr. Mariush who will be helping in the parish when I am away in my pilgrimage. September 24 - First Annual GOLF TOURNAMENT The first "Raise the Spirit Golf Tournament ' was held on Saturday Sept 24 and despite an initial forecast of rain, our prayers were answered and we were blessed with a beautiful day. Fun and fellowship was experienced by all 31 golfers and we thank all participants and all the disciple helpers for making it such an enjoyable day. We thank Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club for their superb hospitality and delicious meal. Generous prize donations and hole sponsorship were received by Kembic Construction , Pearson McCuaig engineering, JB Enterprises, Shiny Objects Jewellery, Action First Aid , Wall - Armstrong and Green Law Firm, The Queens Hotel , Angus Glen Golf Club, Barrie Sports Medicine /Trainers Choice, Mr Robert Lewis, Mr Mark Wolnik and S/W Consulting Engineering, Hymask Roofing and Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club . TAD I have a lot of memories from this pilgrimage.We had Masses in many beautiful churches and places including Matthias Church in Budapest, Melk - Benedictine Monastery in Austria, Infant of Prague Church, Wadowice where John Paul II was baptized and prayed, in an underground chapel in Wieliczka, Divine Mercy in Krakow, Czestochowa and our last Mass was in the famous church of St. John in Warszawa where many famous Polish people are berried including Cardinal Wyszynski and which is the cathedral of the Warsaw Diocese.This Friday I am going to Paris for three days and I will be in Barrie on Monday, Oct. 10th, later in the evening.May God bless you, Fr. Mar, the Deacons, all the ministers and the whole parish. I pray for you and you pray for me.

As we gather here today for the Blessing of this Bell let us begin by recognizing our Triune God as we say: "In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". Let us pray. (Pause)
God, You decreed through blessed Moses, Your servant and lawgiver, that silver trumpets should be made and be sounded at the time of sacrifice, in order to remind the people by their clear tones to prepare to worship You and to assemble for the celebration. Grant, we pray, that this bell, destined for Your holy Church, may be hallowed by the Holy Spirit through our lowly ministry, so that when it is rung the faithful may be invited to the house of God and to the everlasting recompense. Let the people's faith and piety grow stronger whenever they hear its melodious peals. At its sound let all evil spirits be driven afar; let thunder and lightning, hail and storm be banished; let the power of Your hand put down the evil powers of the air, causing them to tremble and to flee at the sound of this bell. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, He who overcame death on the Cross, and Who now reigns in the glory of God the Father, in the unity of the Father and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. August 7 - our X Walking Pilgrimage from Barrie to Midland
On Wednesday we provided the supper for over 500 walking pilgrims from Toronto to Midland. Thank you to all ladies that help out to prepare food.
August 19 - 22, 2013 - Faith & Bible Camp @ Holy Spirit Parish. Thank you Tina Lockyer and helpers to organize the annual Bible Camp. We had over 60 children registered children in different ages.
